Swimming and Diving Falls to RIT Over Weekend

The St. Lawrence swimming and diving team put up a good fight against RIT last Saturday, November 7. After a hard battle the men and women teams were both defeated, 148-82 and 139-98 respectively. The Saints still put up good results despite the loss.

The women and men both finished second in the 200 yard medley relay. The men’s team, made up of Andrew Hayes ’12, Stephen Dally ’10, Elias Schoen ’13, and Rob Sibley ’11 completed the relay in 1:47.27. The women, Molly Lunn ’12, Emily Peck ‘12, Meg Powers ‘13, and Kate Waters ‘10 finished in 2:01.30.

Katie Spakowski ’12 took second in the 1000 yard freestyle event with a time of 11:47.39. Waters followed right behind her in third place with a time of 12:11.60. Russ Newton ’12 brought in a first place for the men’s team in 10:30.96. Mike McPhillips ‘11 completed the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:37.34, giving him fourth place.

The Saints dominated the 200 yard freestyle event finishing in first place in both men and women. Katy Kozminski ’11 led the women’s race in 2:07.02 while Chris Woolston ’10 finished first for the men with a time of 1:52.12.

Molly Lunn finished second for the Saints in both the 200 yard IM, 2:23.37, and the 100 yard butterfly, 1:04.35.

Abbey Lynch ’10 swam more than a second faster than the next competitor in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.98. Lynch continued to come in first in the 100 yard freestyle. She completed the event in 57.19, followed closely by teammate Kozminski with 57.81.

Casey Abribat ‘13 earned another top spot for the women in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.27.

The men took the 100 yard backstroke as Woolston smoked the competition with a time of 57.69. Hayes followed him in second place with 1:01.52. They ended the meet with a first place spot in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team was composed of Brandon Barone ‘10, Alex Root ‘13, Newton and McPhillips.

The Saints continued their success in the diving competition. Chasity Barcomb ‘12 took second place in the 1 meter dive and the 3 meter dive. Meg Powers ’13 and Susan Garnett ’10 put up a good fight and received third and fourth place, respectively, in the 1 meter dive.

The Saints compete again on December 4 and 5 in the Liberty LeagueChampionships. These will be held at the University of Rochester.
