With 250 alumni already registered to attend the upcoming weekend’s long-awaited return of Homecoming, it is safe to say that the men’s hockey team is experiencing quite a bit of pressure, with crowds in the hundreds attending Friday’s “White Out” game. Without any wins under their belts, the Saints are going to need to put their game faces on against both Union and RPI teams.
These next two games are the beginning of a long and hard run against fellow ECAC opponents. As November marks the start of the league season, there’s a now or never mindset at play for the men’s hockey team here at St. Lawrence. The game versus Union marks the first of the weekend, offering a chance at redemption after the 2-1 loss against the Dutchmen last season. Although their 3-1-3 record will present a tough matchup, this will be the first time each team faces another ECAC opponent.
The Saints have ample time to prepare for this weekend and should be ready for the competition. However, there are murmurs around campus about the possibility that the Saints will debut a new formation. If this proves to be true, the men may catch everyone by surprise and begin a long winning streak after this weekend.
Saturday’s game against RPI stands to be just as trying for the team, yet the team is arriving to Appleton Arena carrying a 1-6 record. The Saints will look to capitalize on a few wins before their much-anticipated SLU-Clarkson rivalry game being held on December 6.
Both former players and fans will be expecting the best from our skating Saints and it is up to them to deliver. After all, it is not every weekend that they are putting up a fight in front of such a large crowd.
